Make a Difference

Maine is a land of opportunity, and for many new Americans, it’s their new home. At Good Helper Foundation, we’re dedicated to helping immigrants and refugees build a successful life here.

Whether it’s helping them fill out employment applications, find and move into their very own apartment, or teaching them the ins and outs of life in America, we help these new Mainers grow and thrive.

There are many ways you can get involved and make a real difference!

Volunteer! There Are So Many Ways to Lend a Helping Hand

We rely on passionate volunteers to offer their time and talents. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, there’s a way you can contribute:

  • Food Distribution: Help ensure families have access to nutritious food by assisting with sorting, packing, and distributing groceries to families in our program.
  • Interpreting and Translation: Bridge the language gap by providing interpretation services at appointments, workshops, or social events. Bilingual skills in any language are highly valued!
  • Transportation: Offer rides to newcomers for essential appointments, such as apartment showings, job interviews, and immigration hearings. A driver’s license and a willingness to help are all you need.
  • And so much more!: If you have an interest in helping our immigrant community here in Maine, we have a place for you!

Donate Goods to Make a

Tangible Difference

Starting over can be challenging, and many immigrant families arrive with very little. Your generous donations of essential goods can make a world of difference:

  • Food: Help stock our pantry with non-perishable food items, canned goods, and baby food.
  • Furniture: Donate gently used furniture like beds, tables, and chairs to help families furnish their homes.
  • Clothing: Contribute new or gently used clothing for all ages and genders. Winter gear is especially important in Maine’s climate.

We invite you to watch this video of thanks from one of one of our program recipients
