We would like to share the story behind a mission that truly embodies our guiding principle: The Power of Love.
Earlier this year, Northeast Community Integration (NCI) reached out with an urgent call for help. Maria Lutina—also known as Marlene—was facing severe mental health challenges while living alone in the United States, without family support. Her situation became critical as she experienced homelessness during the harsh winter, leaving her extremely vulnerable.
In coordination with her family in Angola, a plan was put in place to bring Maria home safely, where she could receive the care, stability, and support she urgently needed. Given the urgency of her condition, immediate action was required to ensure her safety.
The Good Helper Foundation (GHF) was honored to support this effort, alongside churches, community members, and partners who came together in an extraordinary show of solidarity.
Thanks to this collective mobilization, Maria was able to safely return to Angola.
We are deeply grateful for the recognition expressed by NCI Leadership, who acknowledged GHF’s support in the process of bringing Maria home. This acknowledgment is meaningful, as it reflects the shared commitment and compassion that made this mission possible.
This story is a powerful reminder that when people unite with empathy and purpose, real change can happen.
It fully reflects what we stand for: The Power of Love.
