    Our Housing Program

How does the Good Helper Foundation assist in finding housing for newly arrived immigrants?

We have curated a list of homeowners and private agencies in Cumberland and Androscoggin counties with their contact details. We collaborate with landlords and social service managers to streamline the housing application process for those under the care of General Assistance.

How can one apply for housing assistance through your foundation?

Individuals seeking housing assistance can fill out a Google form accessible to the public, shareable via email or text message. This form captures essential details such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, the desired number of bedrooms, the number of occupants, and the payment source.

What happens after submitting the housing application form?

Once the form is submitted, our database records the details. When suitable housing is found, we contact the applicant to initiate the rental agreement process with the landlord, followed by approval from the General Assistance office.

How does the foundation facilitate the moving-in process?

After securing the rental agreement, we assist the new tenant in inspecting the house before moving in. We help set up essential utilities like electricity and internet, enroll school-aged children in nearby schools, and connect the family to a hospital.

Does the Good Helper Foundation provide financial assistance to new tenants?

Yes, if the housing costs exceed the budget allocated by General Assistance, the Good Helper Foundation can bridge the financial gap for up to a year, helping tenants to become financially independent in the long run.

What strategies have you implemented to expedite the housing search process?

To expedite the process, we have partnered with social service managers from various cities and have created an easily accessible and shareable Google form to streamline applicants’ data collection. This allows us to promptly connect individuals and families to suitable housing options.

How does the Good Helper Foundation collaborate with landlords and social service managers?

We have approached several landlords to express our intent to collaborate in finding suitable housing for immigrants. We also conduct productive meetings with social service managers from cities like Portland, Lewiston, Westbrook, and Auburn to facilitate and expedite the application process.

What measures are in place to ensure the well-being of the clients post relocation?

After our clients move into their new homes, we provide continued support by helping them set up essential services and connecting them with necessary community resources, ensuring a smooth transition into their new environments.
